To find a trainer with authenticity, genuine passion for the topic and who is able to relate the theory to real practical examples is so important. I had confidence that Sylvia would be able to handle our learners and had the background expertise to create a culture of respect in our training room. The team all commented on the ease with which the training flowed and enjoyed the variety of approaches Sylvia adopts.
The entire syllabus was tackled, but this is not ‘text book’ training; we applied the topics to our environment and explored how the subjects would impact our workplace directly. This really helped to embed the learning and resonated with the team in a positive way and we gained a very high pass rate with Merits. Sylvia initially worked with us in an auditing capacity, and assisted with some remedial training for us back in December 2012, she has now delivered out L3 training in August 2013.
I would have no doubt about working with Sylvia again, and would recommend her to other 5 star hoteliers and rosette restaurateurs. Her track record is exemplary and based on our working relationship I understand why that is the case. I am extremely likely to coordinate further training with her in future and look forward to finding the opportunity to do so.
Lisa Dearing Quality and Learning Manager
Sylvia has been a great help in regards to the food hygiene training Level 3 and 4 for our operation. We always found her to be available at any time and helpful in her sessions. She encouraged the class to be interactive and always ensures that everyone in the class participates to best of their abilities.
She always takes special interest in answering queries out of designated teaching times and is very helpful with circulating course material. She ensured that she created a sense of competition and motivation between classmates to encourage them to do their best. Her knowledge of the industry is excellent and she the way she adapts her training relevant to the level of the individuals she is teaching results in very high pass rates.
The trainers are so professional yet easy going and they liked the format of teaching. They have a way of making the learning fun which then enabled our colleagues to remember what they have learnt when putting it to practise. From an admin point of view, their prices are very competitive with lots of dates available, and communication is fantastic. They respond immediately to any enquiries and are always so informative and readily there to provide alternatives if they cannot provide to your exact requirements.
I highly recommend Anderson Food Hygiene… whilst there are many competitive offers out there this is the company I come to for any food hygiene training now!!

I found Anderson Food Hygiene quite by chance earlier this year when I booked a course through an intermediary Training Website. I have to say from the moment I met Sylvia I was extremely impressed. Her training was exciting and involving and the training centre was in a great location and had good facilities.
I then recommended Sylvia to my boss, Rosemary Schrager, and with the imminent opening of her new cookery school, asked Sylvia to produce and deliver the HACCP documentation. Sylvia and her team did a wonderful job. Delivering such a professional document within tight timescales and great value for money I was really impressed.
John RogersExecutive Chef
We have been using Anderson Food Hygiene Limited regularly since 2011. Initially for food safety training for our teams at our different gourmet pizza delivery units across London, then this February, we strengthened our relationship further when we employed Sylvia to deliver new HACCP documentation for each site.
Overall, Anderson Food Hygiene are an extremely professional Company to work with. The training is fantastic, and feedback from my team is always positive and Sylvia’s natural ability to teach is evident. I am also extremely pleased with the overall professionalism and value for money offered by Anderson Food Hygiene and will definitely continue to work with them moving forward into 2014.

Warren House Conference Centre
Warren House Conference Centre had used Anderson Food Hygiene for the last 9 years, whilst there are plenty of Training options available, we continue to use Anderson Food Hygiene for many reasons, not least because they motivate and produce excellent results from our candidates.
This year, they have undertaken First Aid Training and Level 2 & Level 4 Food Safety training for us all with excellent results again. I can only recommend Anderson Food Hygiene in the strongest possible way for continuing to develop the courses on offer and the way the company has developed as a whole, growing stronger with their offering but keeping to the original ethos of Service to their clients.

Salt Yard Group
Salt Yard Group has had great experiences with Anderson Food Hygiene over the last few years. The courses are always of a high calibre and Sylvia makes them fun and interesting. The last course I did taught me skills I never knew I needed and now I put them into practice daily at work – even after my 18 years’ experience.
During 2013, we continue to use Anderson Food Hygiene regularly, most recently my senior team attended both Level 3 Health & Safety and Food Safety courses and successfully achieved Merits again. Fantastic as always Sylvia is rightfully proud of her business and what she has achieved, in my opinion it’s the best in the business.

This approach enables us to maintain a focused, competent team who have great awareness and responsibility for delivering safe, quality products consistently. Anderson Food hygiene training delivers excellent results with Merits and is great value in the tough economic times. Anderson Food Hygiene are a very flexible Company who continually achieve a 99.9% first time pass success rate leading to employment for those who have sought positions in this field.
Sylvia is totally respectful of all our learners’ diverse backgrounds, ability and language restrictions; always ensuring the learners have understood the importance of food safety, and has, on occasion, ordered papers in a language other than English for those who feel they would like to sit the exam in their mother tongue. All our learners have given positive feedback on the evaluation forms.

We have recently worked with Anderson Food Hygiene who undertook all our Level 2 Food Hygiene training for the opening of our new premises in the heart of the City and we are extremely pleased with the results. As a training provider they have demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, and a clear understanding of how our business operates.
They went the extra mile to ensure all our team were trained out of working hours training Weekends and Evenings to provide the minimum impact on our business. Sylvia, personally, has a natural ability to engage with the students and her training was designed specifically for us. The positive feedback that I have received from my team about the style of the training has been wonderful and I feel confident that the whole team are aware of how important food hygiene is to our business.
Overall, Anderson Food Hygiene are an extremely professional Company that not only offer great value for money but fantastic results as well. We will definitely continue to work with Anderson Food Hygiene in the future.

St John’s School
As the head chef of a busy kitchen at St Johns School in Leatherhead, serving approx 950 meals a day, I can’t begin to tell you how difficult it is to inspire a team of chefs with further food hygiene training.
Until recently we have used a nominated training company but are able to choose for ourselves now. We found ‘Anderson Food Hygiene’ and were tempted by their special offers.
Sylvia was our trainer and came and delivered all the information but did it in a way that inspired my chefs not just to pass the exam, which all did and 2 with merits, but also presented the information in a way that made my 5 chefs interested and enjoy the training.
They’re now putting into practise what she taught them but more importantly are thinking more about the way they do things as a result of her enthusiasm to the subject. I have recommended Sylvia to Chessington Cricket Club and they are equally impressed.
This is definitely the beginning of a long relationship between the school and the services both training and auditing provided by Sylvia’s Company Anderson Food Hygiene.

I recently spoke at the Guardian’s “How to Start a Supper Club, Home Restaurant, or Pop-Up” Masterclass. In case you missed the event, this blog covers the most important pointers I shared on the day. Supper clubs, pop-up restaurants, and home restaurants have all been increasing in popularity since around the early 2000s. The success of such models is largely tied to the rise of digital communication and social media, since diners typically use these mediums to learn about and make reservations at these exciting new eateries. It’s now easier than ever to set up and promote one of these clubs or restaurants. Social media has made people more aware and accepting of unconventional dining options, and a good number of those who have set them up have since launched successful culinary careers. But even though setting up a supper club, pop-up, or home restaurant can be a realistic goal for almost anybody; there are still some important things that anyone seeking to do so should know. For this reason I was recently invited to talk at the Guardian’s “How to Start a Supper Club, Home Restaurant, or Pop-Up” Masterclass. Alongside MasterChef finalist Tony Rodd and writer and regular supper club host Uyen Luu, I was asked to explain to delegates exactly what it takes to launch a successful supper club, home restaurant, or pop-up. As somebody who’s passionate about both food and food safety, as well as personal and professional development, I was delighted to be invited to talk at the event, and used the opportunity to educate attendees about all the legal and... read more
The news and social media are full of stories on poor food hygiene at the moment and no food business is immune to bad press, including those run by celebrity chefs, like Heston Blumenthal who had an outbreak of food poisoning at his restaurant; Jamie Oliver’s deluxe London butchers closed after health inspectors found mouse droppings, out-of-date wagyu beef and mouldy carcasses and even Marco Pierre White’s flagship restaurant in Birmingham was given a zero food hygiene rating from the environmental health officers. Good food safety practices are paramount for any food business, it makes perfect business sense… As a food hygiene expert for ITV, Channel 4 and The Guardian Newspaper MasterClasses one of my most important roles is making my clients business safe, furthermore we are the only food hygiene and health and safety company to win 10 UK and local awards because we are ambassadors of our industry. Our business is to help you ensure that your business is compliant. Are you on the right side of the law? If your organisation handles food the law requires some very precise things from you, namely to have a documented food safety management system, known as HACCP, and that you have keep complete and thorough records. Ask yourself these 5 questions: Do I know, and keep, at least the minimum standards for premises, temperature control, personal hygiene etc.? Do I have proof that my staff are properly trained and is my team compliant? Do I need Level 2 (basic), Level 3 (Intermediate) and/or Level 4 Food Safety (Management) training and certification for myself or my staff? Do I want to achieve a... read more
Norovirus is a very contagious virus and is sometimes known as the winter vomiting bug, is the most common stomach bug in the UK. You can get norovirus from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces. The virus causes your stomach or intestines or both to get inflamed (acute gastroenteritis). This leads you to have stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Anyone can be infected with norovirus and get ill but it can be serious for the young and the elderly. There’s no specific cure for norovirus so you have to let it run its course. It’s usually mild and shouldn’t last more than a couple of days. The period from when you’re infected to when you start to show symptoms (the incubation period) usually lasts 12-48 hours, during this time, you maybe infectious to other people. The best way to help prevent norovirus is to practice proper hand washing and general cleanliness. There are at least 25 different strains of noroviruses known to affect humans. They’re the most common cause of stomach bugs gastroenteritis in the UK. They’re also known as small round structured viruses (SRSV) or Norwalk-like viruses. Each year, it’s estimated that between 600,000 and 1 million people in the UK catch norovirus. Preventing norovirus spreading Norovirus is easily spread. If an infected person doesn’t wash their hands before handling food, they can pass the virus on to others. You can also catch it by touching contaminated surfaces or objects. To help prevent the virus spreading. Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water, particularly after using the toilet and before preparing food. Don’t share any cloths. Food Poisoning usually occurs within one to 36 hours of eating poisonous or contaminated food. The symptoms normally last from one to seven days and include one or more of the following symptoms: abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, dehydration and fever, the worst thing that can happen is DEATH! It’s difficult to know exactly how many people get food poisoning because mild cases often go unreported. However, the Food Standards Agency estimates that food poisoning affects up to 5.5 million people in the UK each year, those most at risk include young children, the elderly, pregnant women and people who already ill or recovering. The main reasons for food poisoning are ignorance, negligence, poor management and supervision of food handlers and a failure to implement good working practices. This can be prevented by ensuring good effective instruction and training of food handlers who are potentially the most serious hazards in a food business. Top 10 Causes of Food Poisoning Preparing food too far in advance and leaving it in the danger zone (between 5ºC and 63ºC) Cooling food too slowly (within 2 hours) Not reheating food to a high enough temperature (plus 75ºC for 30 seconds) Using food that is already contaminated Not cooking food to a high enough temperature (plus 75ºC for 30 seconds) Not thawing frozen food properly before it is cooked Cross contamination of raw to cooked food Storing hot food below 63ºC – in the danger zone Contamination of food by food handlers Using leftover food For more information about our award winning training food safety training courses, auditing or consultancy services visit our website at... read more
As a food hygiene expert working undercover for ITV and Channel 4 for several years I probably would not eat in half the places I have visited due to poor working practices which is a shame as food safety and hygiene in my opinion is common sense. Most food business operators think it is very easy to open up a food related business but often they really don’t consider the importance of a food safety management system (HACCP). The initial outlay to set up such a system and train their staff seems an unnecessary expense to a new business especially when they see the priority being marketing their new business and generating turnover. Unfortunately, businesses like these think they know it all, it won’t happen to them….but how wrong they are! Did you know, for example, that getting Food Safety and Health & Safety wrong can lead to £20K or unlimited fines or, in the most extreme cases, a 2 year jail sentence – and obviously, the end of their business. It just takes one case of food poisoning to shut your business down, you just have to read the press to hear about the latest cases. My last blog was on ‘What is Norovirus’ http://afoodh.wpengine.com/what-is-norovirus/ Here at Anderson Food Hygiene we have had to adapt our accredited tailored training programmes to meet the needs of this ever-changing environment and we work very closely with The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health as one of their top premium training centres to promote good practice both food safety and health & safety. Yes….that was me this week at the inaugural London Business Awards held at the most amazing venue The Brewery by Eco hosted by Magic FM’s Neil ‘Dr’ Fox himself. What a fantastic glitzy affair with over 32 London boroughs competing in 12 categories to recognise and celebrate the most dynamic and innovative businesses across London. We WON Best Hospitality, Leisure, Travel & Tourism Business 2014. I presume at this point you are thinking why did a Training Company enter into this category which was deemed as a celebration of our City’s successful hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industry. I effectively become part of their team for a day / 2 days / 3 days or however long it takes to make sure their business is safe! Why? Because I am their Food Safety Expert. I am the person they come to for guidance from what type of training they need to launch their new venture to what do I do when something goes wrong. Yesterday, news was full of washing Chicken….tomorrow I’m sure it will be all about the pitfalls of eating out. But today, the news is all about Anderson Food Hygiene and our new shiny award… Best Hospitality, Leisure, Travel & Tourism Business 2014. So while the UK goes food safety mad…I am sitting here reflective of how wonderful it is that we... read more
